Overview

The Autism CanTech! Program is a national, federally-funded, program for autistic youth between the ages of 18-30, where participants will develop the skills and strategies that they need to work effectively within the digital economy. This is achieved through a four-month preparatory course, two months of paid work experience, and access to a range of additional support.

Participants work in a small class environment to develop job-specific skills such as data processing, data management, software literacy, communication , and teamwork. In addition, attention is given to career exploration and job search skills.

Additional Supports

Throughout the program, participants will work closely with a  Career Coach to prepare for their work experience placement and to obtain further employment. Participants will also use a breakthrough application known as RoboCoach, a unique and scalable assistive technology that addresses specific employment challenges sometimes faced by people with autism while in the workplace.

Work Placement

The Autism CanTech! program includes a paid work experience that will take place over 2 months (typically 5 hours/day) for a total of 200 hours. This component of the program is a key part of the overall learning experience. The work experience gives participants the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge they learn in the classroom to gain an entry-level position with an employer-partner, while also learning about their own skills and the type of work they might want to do in the future.

During their work experience, participants will develop their skills, experience a professional work setting, and build their confidence. This experience will also build their network, add experience to their resume, and can lead to a good reference.
